Search Engine Optimisation gives your website the best chance to be seen on search engine listings.
There are hundreds of small things you can do on a monthly basis to make a difference to your website rankings.
There are also a few errors which are easily made and could be ruining all of your efforts. Here are the top 6 SEO mistakes we fix for our customers, in order to help you avoid making these same mistakes.
1. Zero SEO Strategy!
Having a website and expecting it to magically rank highly on Google just isn’t the way forward. Get an SEO audit done on your website so that you can understand what is and isn’t working for you. You can then base your next few months of SEO work around fixing any technical issues and also improving your on-page content.
2. No H1 Heading . . .
The H1 heading is really important as it tells visitors and search engines what the page is all about. It’s amazing how many sites we come across that miss this item out.
Not sure what a H1 heading even is?
Put your header tag <h1>Page Title Here </h1> at the top of the page, preferably after the <body> tag.

3. Page Speed!
A major ranking factor for search engines is page speed – the faster the better! This can also help when your website links get clicked, as people don’t want to sit around waiting for 7 seconds whilst your site loads. As a result Google gives more value to fast loading sites that please the visitor.
4. Low Page Content
Google bots read every bit of code that your page is made up of, as well as the text that it contains.
Therefore if your website is created with lots of bloated code your page content may get lost. Think of it as trying to find a needle in a haystack rather than a needle in an egg cup.
In order to combat this you can add more valuable, interesting content to your pages. Ideally aim for 1,000 words of good, relevant content per information page.
Many online web builders use lots of unnecessary code known as “code bloat”. In contrast to this a high end website will use minimal code allowing your content to be seen more easily by search engines.
5. Trying To Rank The Page For Too Many Keywords
Every page on your website should be easy to understand and ideally targeted at just one or few similar keyword terms – this will help remove any confusion as to what the page is all about. If you have several topics that need to be included, you could try separating these out into different pages.
6. Using Images Instead Of Text
Search engines can’t read text on your website if it’s part of an image! Therefore it’s important to use font replacement wherever possible for custom fonts. Images containing text should only be used as a last resort. Back in the day almost every website was made with lots of different images for pretty much everything. These days are long gone.
